Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition is running very slowly. What can I do to speed it up?

Reduce your graphics settings in the Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition menu to a lower level. You could be asking your graphics card to do more than it can handle. Reduce the various graphics settings to their lowest and run a Mission or Free Flight. If it is running better increase the graphics settings to the next level and run the Mission or Free Flight again. Repeat this process until Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition starts to slow down again. When it does, reduce the graphics settings back to the last level when the game ran without an issue.

Players who are running a large number of scenery add-ons are most likely to be affected by this situation. Please note that if you have a large amount of addons you may need to consider a hardware upgrade for better performance.
