Re-installing Train Simulator 2020 or Train Sim World 2020 is fundamentally one of the easiest methods of restoring the software to the default “Factory” state (the term factory simply means to restore to a state as originally intended by the manufacturer). Here’s how:

Train Sim World 2020

  1. If you wish to retain all in-game progress, it’s recommended that you copy your game profile information to a safe location. Navigate to %userprofile%/Documents\My Games\TS2Prototype  (you can copy this to the Windows Explorer address bar to instantly take you there). Copy the Saved folder to a safe place somewhere else on your hard disk.
  2. Load Steam and navigate to your Game Library;
  3. Right-click on Train Sim World 2020 and select Uninstall;
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Train Sim World;
  5. Once the uninstall process has completed, click Install and follow the on-screen instructions to re-install Train Sim World.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Please ensure you have backed up any custom developed content, such as that you would normally find within the Source folder, before you attempt to re-install Train Simulator. The Re-Install process below will remove all the content contained within the Train Simulator installation folder and you will lose all data that has not been backed up beforehand. You proceed with the instructions below at your own risk and we are not able to accept responsibility for issues arising because you have not taken steps to safeguard irreplaceable data beforehand.

  1. Load Steam and navigate to your Game Library;
  2. Right-click on Train Simulator and select Manage, then Browse Local Files;
  3. A Windows Explorer window opens showing the Train Simulator installation folder. For the moment, leave the window open and return to Steam, then right-click on Train Simulator and select Uninstall;
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove Train Simulator;
  5. Close Steam by selecting Exit from the Steam menu;
  6. Return to the Windows Explorer window opened in Step 2 and check to ensure the contents of the folder is empty. If there are remaining files, delete them before continuing with the remaining steps;
  7.
  8. IMPORTANT NOTE: Step 6 is critical as Steam can leave files and folders behind that need to be manually deleted. These 'remnants' may be third-party add-ons or modifications you have installed that were not downloaded from Steam.
  1. Load Steam and navigate to your Game Library;
  2. Left-click on Train Simulator and click the Install button on the right; Follow the on-screen instructions to re-install.
