The Thanksgiving Holiday is a time of travel and festivities in the United States

Thanksgiving Day. It is surely one of America’s most beloved and celebrated Holidays, and for millions of Americans, it is a time to visit home, renew family and friendship ties, and, of course, feast upon the classic turkey dinner with all the trimmings.

The Thanksgiving holiday week is also the busiest travel time of the year in the United States. This year, approximately 51 million Americans will travel for Thanksgiving (and 51 million is equal to the entire population of sizable counties such as South Korea or Columbia!). Much of the holiday travel is by automobile, but the airlines and railroads are, of course, bustling, too. Amtrak carries more than three-quarters of a million passengers over the holiday weekend and uses every locomotive and coach it can find, regularly short-term leasing commuter railroads’ equipment to increase its capacity for holiday travelers.

Indeed, travel by train for Thanksgiving visits to home has been a tradition, well, as long as there have been railroads. Even if one is staying home for the holiday, the warm experience of travel by rail can be enjoyed with Train Simulator, and thus we thought it would be appropriate to celebrate the holiday by re-creating images of Thanksgiving train travel across the nation and through the decades! – Gary Dolzall
